Title/Collateral Documents

After we’ve received your final payment, you will receive a Paid-In-Full letter by mail. The title will be sent by mail or released electronically, depending on the state in which your vehicle is titled. Some states may charge a fee to print your title. In states where the customer holds the title, a lien release will be sent to an individual or business that is authorized to receive it.

Title Maintained by Wells Fargo Dealer Services
We'll start the title release process in approximately 7 – 10 calendar days after the payoff posts to your account, to allow enough processing time for your payment to clear through your financial institution, or as otherwise required by state law. This does not include mail time. Payment by guaranteed funds (such as a money order, cashier’s check, or wire transfer) will expedite the process and begin your title release within 3 days. If the payoff amount received does not satisfy the amount owed, the title or lien release will not be sent until the balance is settled.

Electronic Title Maintained by Your State
We will electronically cancel our lien with your state. Once the lien is released, your state may mail your title to you in approximately 2 – 4 weeks or your state may require you to request the title in person or online.

Please note some states will mail a lien-free paper title to the registered owner listed in the DMV/titling agency files. For more information about the title and/or cost for printing a title, please contact your Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)/titling agency.

This process may take up to 30 days before you receive the title from your state. If you have not received the certificate of title after this time or if you have questions, please call us at 1‑800‑289‑8004 or you contact your DMV/titling agency.
